Sesshin

See Calendar for details regarding time and location

oryoki-style meal during sesshinSesshin, literally “touching the heart-mind,” is a retreat period of intensive meditation time to focus wholeheartedly on concentration and awareness. It provides an opportunity to turn our full attention to the activity of the moment – just that count, just that koan, just that meal – nothing else.

The schedule allows time for sitting meditation (zazen), walking meditation (kinhin), chanting, and dharma talks by the sesshin leader.  Sesshin also includes time for mindful work practice and face-to-face meetings with a teacher (dokusan).

Silent vegetarian lunch and dinner are provided on Fri and Sat. Participants are welcome to arrive and depart at any time over the 3-day period. If possible, please notify CRZ at crookedriverzen@gmail.com if you plan to have lunch or dinner on Fri. or Sat. Open to everyone.

Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before the scheduled start to the day to allow yourself to get settled and seated before meditation begins..

To study the Buddha Way is to study the self.
To study the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to be actualized by all things.

~ Eihei Dogen Zenji

Buddha

Zen practice is to get to our True Mind, the mind not accessible to thinking. This mind cannot be consciously known by ordinary efforts. An unusual effort is necessary. This effort is zazen.
